A few months back, I watched the YouTube video by TIK History Did Darwin cause Hitler? where the book From a “Race of Maters” to the “Master Race”, by A.E. Saaman is reviewed. The book, and the review takes a look at the history of Eugenics. The video points out some of Saaman’s mistakes as well as some of his very good points in this review. The video is a little over an hour, but is well worth viewing.

In the video, the historic figures of the Eugenics movement are discussed, as well as their views and writings. As expected, a great many were materialist atheist, but just as many, if not more, were spiritualist. I know that seems surprising, but after you think about it, we shouldn’t be surprised. To slightly misquote C.S. Lewis, “Satan is equally pleased with both errors and hails a materialist or a magician with the same delight.” Eugenics is a horrible an evil error which attracts both atheist and spiritualist.

What was interesting was that the Eugenicist for almost a hundred years speculated on how in some distant future a whole host of things would help perfect humanity. Things such as forced sterilization of the mentally defective, force segregation of “inferior” groups into eugenic camps, and euthanasia of those draining societies precious resources. They even pushed through a few laws that work on the periphery and would go unnoticed. But for the most part the waited for this utopian future to perfect man. Then came Hitler, and he said the future is now. When they saw all they had merely imagined in its ultimate reality they – and the rest of the world – were justly horrified.

The one good thing that resulted from the Holocaust is that it stopped the Eugenics movement in its tracks. I wish I could say it utterly destroyed it and resigned it to the “dust bin of history,” but that is too Polly Anna. I fear it is beginning to once more raise its ugly head in the euphemisms of “Death with Dignity,” “Animal Rights,” and “Pro-Choice.”  All of these lessen the value of human life and once that is done, we are on the road to a second Holocaust.
